Job Description

Position Summary: The Tutor, Biology assists and guides students in their coursework, providing academic support and integrating study & learning strategies to promote independent learning.

The Tutor, Biology reports to the Assistant Director of the Center for Student Success.


Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Meets and works with students individually or in small groups (frequency may vary) in an in-person or online setting depending on the course.
  • Provides content-based learning activities to enrich and support course content
  • Provides students with tools to assess their learning and study habits and make suggestions as needed
  • Provides students with study skill suggestions and tools to become active learners
  • Meets with Instructors to discuss tutoring and student progress as needed
  • Maintains frequent contact and communication with the Assistant Director
  • Keeps the schedule updated and let the Assistant Director know of any changes
  • Serves as a resource for other tutors, including Peer Tutors, in that same discipline
  • Makes referrals to campus services as needed
  • Maintain weekly time sheets
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by the Assistant Director

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in a related field, Doctorate preferred
  • Experience teaching or tutoring in higher education preferred


Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Additional Information: This position is based in Albany, NY. The duties and responsibilities of this particular role require the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or interaction with our community, requiring all work to be performed full-time on-site. Standard work hours are from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM EST, Monday through Friday. Additional details pertaining to this position will be discussed during the interview process.
