Job Description

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Graduate Studies is seeking a part-time contractual Standardized Patients Genitourinary Teaching Associate (GUTA) to participate in educational training events for students in the Physician Assistant Program and the School of Pharmacy. Ideal candidates will use acting skills to demonstrates basic or complex symptom(s) or problem(s) of healthcare situations. These situations vary from short single symptom issues, to long-scripted multifaceted hands-on patient case scenarios. These scenarios are designed to provide students an opportunity to learn and be evaluated. This position will interact emotionally with learners to provide most realistic settings. Scenarios may include hands on physical exams.

*This position is a non-benefited, Contingent Category I contractual position.*

UMB is a Maryland state university. Applicants are expected to reside in or be able to relocate to the State of Maryland. Consideration may also be given to residents of the District of Columbia, Delaware, Virginia, or West Virginia. This residency requirement also applies to those performing telework.


Primary Duties

A Genitourinary Teaching Associate (GUTA) must be able to:

Females: Utilize your body to instruct learners on the correct techniques for performing a routine female breast and pelvic examination. Instruct learners in physician/patient communications.

Males: Utilize your body to instruct learners on the correct techniques for performing a routine male genital and rectal examination. Instruct learners in physician/patient communications.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION: None required. High School Diploma or GED preferred.

EXPERIENCE: No experience is required, but prior performing arts experience is beneficial. One (1) year of experience working with computers and as a Standardized Patient/PETA/GUTA, a health professional, an instructor, or an actor experience working with Zoom or similar teleconferencing platforms preferred.

OTHER: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to learn, memorize and demonstrate symptoms or problem of behavioral and/or healthcare situational scenarios scripts.

Ability to effectively communicate with learners and faculty. Ability to be relaxed and comfortable dealing with healthcare professionals.

Ability to keep all case information confidential.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Communicate articulately.

Provide constructive feedback.

Observe and remember learners’ behavior for accurately evaluating their competencies.

Possess interpersonal skills when working with clinical learners.

If a GUTA or a PETA, must be comfortable with discussing and demonstrating her/his own anatomy with others.

Hiring Range: $70 per hour
