Job Description

Express Employment Professionals in Yuba City is hiring for 2 part-time (1 day shift and 1 night shift) Shelter Advocate positions in Yuba City, CA.The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Shelter Advocate is responsible for the Shelter front desk coverage, answering Crisis and Support Line calls, fulfilling clerical duties, data entry, reporting, documentation, file maintenance, and providing excellent customer service to the residential clients. The Advocate will interact with Shelter residents to provide support, assess primary needs, provide resources, and help to ensure the safety of the residential clients and the Shelter facility.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Answer crisis calls and assess emergency Shelter needs, determine eligibility for intake, and coordinate

transportation plans to the Shelter.

  • Perform Shelter intakes as needed, facilitate residential discharges
  • Provide internal and community resources to callers and Shelter Program Participants
  • Conduct Shelter assessments for callers seeking Shelter
  • Respond to text and online chat message
  • Monitor the Shelter and grounds to maintain security via walk-throughs and camera monitoring
  • Maintain a healthy, sanitary, and organized physical environment for staff and residents.
  • Ensure menu, food preparation, and chores occur.
  • Complete a weekly inventory of groceries and supplies.
  • Coordinate ordering and pick up supplies and food.
  • Provide client accompaniment.
  • Complete clerical duties
  • Provide critical incident intervention including, but not limited to, client de-escalation, conflict

resolution, evacuation for fire alarm
o Night shift employees sometimes work alone and must have the ability to perform this
function independently

  • Maintain detailed, accurate records necessary for Program and case files
  • Interact and build rapport with Program Participants
  • Clean all areas of the Shelter, ensuring all rooms are appropriate for services
  • Conduct daily room walk-throughs, noting the status of the building and filing appropriate work

orders.

  • Attend Program staff meetings, in-service training sessions, and other meetings as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of six months of related experience required.
  • Knowledge of violence dynamics and Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa County resources for homeless and

other underserved populations. Experience working in an emergency Shelter environment.

  • Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocate Certification or willing to obtain shortly after hire.
  • Valid California Driver’s License, car insurance, and personal vehicle.
  • Ability to build supportive and respectful working relationships with staff and clients.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a team, being an effective and collaborative leader.
  • Skilled at communicating with a team responsible for their work but sharing the responsibility for the

Program's overall success.

  • Navigating through new roles to see them through to success.
  • Good computer skills, ability, and willingness to learn various applications. Proficiency with Microsoft

Office programs.

  • Must be detail-oriented with good organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
