School Athletic Assistant Coach

Salary: $1,103.16 - $3,309.47 Annually


Description

Under the general supervision of the school’s Head Coach, an employee in this class provides assistance in designing and implementing the athletic program for the assigned sport. The School Athletic Assistant coach supports the head coach, ensures that equipment and facilities are maintained, and performs various administrative duties. An employee in this class also schedules and supervises practice sessions, maintains training equipment and organizes team events. The incumbent works as a casual labor employee according to the provisions of the contract compensated by a stipend at the end of the season.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance to the Head Coach in athletic training to students.


  • Schedules daily practice sessions, including individual and team practices.


  • Trains and prepares student athletes for sports competitions.


  • Organizes various sporting events, contests and competitions.


  • Teaches skills, techniques and strategies for team play.


  • Recruits and selects qualified students for sports program.


  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of student athletes and provides appropriate feedback.


  • Builds positive and achievement-oriented team environment.


  • Ensures that student athletes are mentally and physically fit to participate in sports program.


  • Plans travel arrangements for team including transportation, food and lodging.


  • Assists in conducting alumni events, summer camps, promotional events and fund-raising programs.


  • Maintains athletic facilities to facilitate ensure the efficient flow of the sporting activity.


  • Ensures that athletic equipment and tools are in good and safe working conditions.


  • Assists in budget preparation and expense management programs.


  • Adheres to rules and policies established by athletic department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An Associates of Arts degree from a recognized college or university in physical education or a related field and two (2) years of work experience working in sports or recreation activities.


OR


  • A High School diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years of work experience working in sports or recreation activities.

  • FACTOR 1- KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION


    Knowledge of all appropriate rules and regulations.


    Knowledge of the fundamentals and advanced theories of the sport that the employee is coaching.

    Knowledge of first aid, health & safety and how to deal with a distressed student-athlete.


    Skill in leadership and team-building.

    Skill in effective communication in order to inspire players and work with them on improvement.

    Ability to actively participate in sporting activity.


    Ability to maintain optimal physical health.


    Ability to be self-motivated and set an example for the players.


    Ability to assess and appropriately address problems and threats.


  • FACTOR 2- SUPERVISORY CONTROLS


    Supervision is received from the head coach in the forms of staff meetings, regular conversations, review of reports submitted and evaluation of effectiveness of activities.

  • FACTOR 3- GUIDELINES


    Guidelines consist of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures applicable to providing student services.


  • FACTOR 4- COMPLEXITY


    Work is specialized recreational and sporting activity, which involves planning, organizing, supervising and participating in tournaments, sport leagues, summer camps and other outdoor activities for the benefit of the school’s community.


  • FACTOR 5- SCOPE AND EFFECT


    The purpose of work is to coordinate, plan, organize and develop student-athletes into a cohesive unit that will participate in sporting activities for the benefit of all in the school community. It is also to stimulate development of younger student-athletes, whereby they can attain the highest level of proficiency in order to contribute positively toward the ultimate goal.


  • FACTOR 6- PERSONAL CONTACTS


    Contacts are student athletes, supervisors, school personnel, various community organizations, business professionals, parents, and the general public.


  • FACTOR 7- PURPOSE OF CONTACTS


    Contacts are made to gather information pertinent to the development of the athlete or the sporting activity. Contacts are made in person, by telephone, in writing and through other media services.


  • FACTOR 8- PHYSICAL DEMANDS


    Work involves physical activity and fitness, as well traveling to sporting events and tournaments.


  • FACTOR 9- WORK ENVIRONMENT


    Work is performed mostly in an athletic environment, as well as in an office setting.
