Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Scheduler in Labor and Delivery, you will be responsible for the secretarial functions in Women’s Services. You will interact with patients, visitors, physicians and their office staff, and other hospital personnel in a professional manner.

• You will answer phones and greet patients and visitors
• You will order unit supplies and obtain equipment needed by nurses
• You will handle chart organization and prepare charts for new patients
• You will discharge patients, file charts after discharge, and notify housekeeping to clean rooms after discharge
• You will enter physician orders and notify nurses of new electronic patient orders or special orders
• You will answer call lights and interact with patient family members as needed
• You will interview patients to obtain all necessary registration information and ensure charts are complete and accurate
• You will verify insurance and obtain pre-certification and authorization
• You will answer policy questions, answer patient and visitor questions, secure all necessary signatures for treatment and payment, and explain all policies regarding services, charges, insurance and payment
• You will document complaints from patients, medical staff, and other departments
• You will check for physician orders and attach them to patient medical records

What qualifications you will need:

Experience

• Previous clerical experience in the hospital field and medical terminology knowledge - preferred

Education

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
