Job Summary:

The Dining Attendant in Health Care & Assisted Living (AL) Centers assists the Chefs, Nutrition Care Manager, Lead Dining Attendant, and CNAs with providing meal service to residents in the Assisted Living and Health Care Centers.

The Dining Attendant in Independent Living (IL) & Catering Events provides wait staff services for independent living dining rooms and catering events on campus in a professional and friendly manner in accordance with guidelines for wait staff etiquette.

Dining Attendant in IL & Catering Events Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides wait staff service (in the dining rooms) to residents by taking orders, entering orders into POS, capturing "servery selected" items in POS, seeing that meal selections are delivered accurately and following guidelines for wait staff etiquette.
  • Provides wait staff service, including set-up and clean up for catering events by serving the catering menu, seeing that the event menu is delivered accurately for guests and following guidelines for wait staff etiquette.
  • Provides wait staff service, including delivery, for resident home meal delivery, POS entry, seeing that the order is delivered accurately/timely and following guidelines for wait staff etiquette.
  • Provides wait staff service in the Servery (including POS, "bussing" the area, replenishing supplies, checking out meal delivery tickets, etc.).
  • Performs "pre-bussing" services during a meal to provide a pleasant and uncluttered dining experience. Perform post-meal breakdowns by clearing and sanitizing dining rooms and beverage stations and transporting dishware for washing.
  • Maintains clean and sanitary work areas by following sanitation guidelines set by the State and County Health Departments and by adhering to all posted daily and weekly cleaning schedules for the dining rooms, beverage stations and other areas as assigned.
  • Performs set-up, running, and breakdown "side work" for: Customer Service; Food & Beverage & Supplies.
  • Maintains presence in the dining room and/or catering space, constantly observing tables to anticipate guest/resident needs.
  • Maintain daily awareness of special events, requests, and resident/guest needs by communicating with Supervisor, Hostess, Chefs, etc.
  • Supports teamwork within the company by assisting departments with special requests and projects at the discretion of the supervisor.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or as may be required to meet emergency situations.

Dining Attendant in Health Care & AL Essential Job Functions:

  • Enters individual resident meal selections into Point-of-Sale (POS) as received from CNAs. Each meal selection is made during the previous meal with assistance from CNAs and then given to the Dining Attendants.
  • Places bulk orders based on individual meal sections and enters into the Point-of-Sale (POS) for kitchens without chefs. In kitchens with Chef's this function is not applicable as the chef cooks to order.
  • Organizes hall trays, or assists Chef, for delivery by CNAs to the individual resident room.
  • Maintains, or assists chef, in cleaning and sanitizing work areas by following sanitation guidelines set by the State and County Health Departments and by adhering to all posted daily and weekly cleaning schedules and recording the results in the Food Temperature Logs.
  • Ensures that the snack cart is stocked and clean by monitoring the quality of snacks and expiration dates.
  • Assists in controlling food cost by properly storing and labeling leftovers and monitoring waste.
  • Assists the Lead Dining Attendant in keeping nourishment areas stocked and sanitary by following posted par sheets and schedules as requested.
  • Sets-up, clears, and sanitizes dining rooms and serving areas and transporting dishware for washing.
  • Supports teamwork within the company by assisting departments with special requests and projects at the discretion of the supervisor.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or as may be required to meet emergency situations.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Good oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess and exhibit a strong positive attitude toward customer service and a genuine interest in geriatric care and uphold the philosophy of the community.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and following written and verbal directions.
  • Uphold the utmost attention to the cleanliness and detail towards sanitation in food service.
  • Ability to strive to do the best job possible and accountable for one’s own action.
  • Capability of handling routine problems effectively.
  • Willingness to comply with all food safety procedures and maintain a safety-first mindset.
  • Aptitude to know when to refer problems to supervisor, always has a witness present when handling discipline.
  • Exceptional time management skills with the ability to multi-task and manage high-volume dish washing.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Five to eight (5 to 8) years’ experience in Food Service industry preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of standing and walking short distances for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects more than 50 pounds.
  • Stoop and bend at the knees, twisting from side to side at the waist.
  • Reach above, below, and at shoulder level.

Work Environment:

Works in a clean, well-lighted and ventilated kitchen and dining rooms. Possible work hazards include cuts from utensils, burns, falls due to wet floors, quick temperature changes in and out of refrigeration areas and around steam tables.
