Purpose:
The Retail Associate supports the mission of DAP by providing supportive interaction with community members, donors, and victims of domestic violence. This position is responsible for providing a high level of customer service, donations processing and positive interaction with volunteers.
Essential Duties
- Ensure a welcoming environment for all who enter the thrift store by greeting visitors and providing quality customer service
- Answers customer’s questions and assists with purchase decisions
- Responsible for opening and closing the store (as needed)
- Collects payment using the store’s point of sale system
- Process and price donations on a timely basis
- Assist with maintaining inventory and quality control
- Assist with store inventory audits as scheduled.
- Participate in organization-wide staff meetings
- Oversee volunteers, to include time sheets, coverage, name badges
- Availability to work 12+ hours per week, including weekends
- Current required shift (Monday; Tuesday & Saturday 11am-3pm
- Responsible for taking & depositing monies to designated DAP bank as directed
- Responsible to ensure the sales floor is clean, organized, and stocked at all times
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Competencies
- 1-2 years of previous retail experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to operate or quickly learn the store’s point-of-sale system
- Ability to work well with others &uphold a psychologically safe environment
- Maintain confidentiality and earn respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions
- Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite required
- Ability to integrate various work responsibilities into a daily routine
Physical Requirements
Prolonged period of standing & walking in the retail space
Must be able to lift 15 lbs at times
Other Requirements
- Successful completion of required organizational training
- Satisfactory Criminal Background Check and other organizationally required clearances
