Responsibilities

The Research Scientist must play a key supporting role in the sponsoring research program. Will significantly contribute to grant writing and serve as co-principal investigator (if necessary) on extramural grant applications submitted by the principal investigator. May apply as the co-investigator or co-principal investigator with other investigators or principal investigator for an extramural grant or contracts if done in collaboration with his/her Mayo sponsor. The Research Scientist is expected to serve as the principal investigator's internal and external representative and resource contact person for the research program and may represent the principal investigator at national or international meetings if necessary. Brings a unique skill, technique or knowledge to the program and will significantly participate in personnel and resource management on behalf of the principal investigator. Will independently manage assigned projects and the projects of other program personnel. Will provide input for the direction and design of other's projects and direct teaching activities within the investigator's program.

  • This is a 3-month limited tenure position with a maximum of up to 20 hours per week.

Qualifications

A Research Scientist candidate must have a doctoral level degree and a minimum of 6 years of postdoctoral research training at Mayo or elsewhere. Must hold academic rank (i.e. Instructor, Assistant Professor) at Mayo at the time of accepting the Research Scientist position or achieve it immediately thereafter. The candidate must bring a unique skill, technique or knowledge to the sponsoring program as documented by professional accomplishments and publication record and will have made a career decision to pursue regular employment at Mayo in support of an established research staff program.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate should have an extensive background in rodent neuroanatomy as well as an extensive computer programing experience. The candidate will work on a project to (1) develop an AI-driven rat brain-wide profiling method and (2) analyze experimental data set to determine neurocircuitry underlying relapse-promotiong vs. relapse-suppression within the contexts of rodent models of addictive behavior.
