Job Title: Planetarium Presenter

Facility: Ingram Planetarium

Part-Time

Reports to: Executive Director and Planetarium Manager

Position Overview

The Planetarium Presenter is primarily responsible for presenting programs in the planetarium and assisting with equipment upkeep and routine maintenance. The incumbent also assists in the daily routine operation of the Ingram Planetarium, including but not limited to – opening and closing the facility, assisting other staff and volunteers in organization-wide events and initiatives, as well as customer service. This position is supervised by the Executive Director and is scheduled by and reports to the Planetarium Manager. Some evening, weekend, and holiday hours are required in an equitable rotation among the other staff. Hours are extended in the Spring and Summer schedule for additional coverage during the busier tourist season.

Requirements

· Minimum of a High School Degree.
· Academic experience through college prep or college courses in Physical Sciences and/or Education.
· Planetarium experience preferred but not required.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Experience with public speaking and/or theater.
· Technical capability to adapt to and operate novel software and hardware.
· Flexibility in working hours, as some evening, weekend, and holiday work is required.
· Some familiarity with audio/visual, optical, and electrical equipment.
· Ability to work in a low light environment.
· Ability to tolerate motion heavy media and elevated sound conditions.
· Must possess a valid drivers license.

Essential Job Functions

· Work with adults, children, and families in an informal educational setting with an energetic and engaged disposition.
· Present engaging planetarium programs (live and packaged) for a variety of audience types and ages.
· Assist with the operation of exhibits and activities related to Earth and Space science.
· Fill in as needed when alternate presenters are out due to unforeseen circumstances.
· Assist with coordination of planetarium special events.
· Provide general public information, and answer basic Astronomy and Earth Science related questions.
· Assist as needed in opening and closing the facilities.
· Complete daily operations related to public programs and special events such as routine cleaning and resetting exhibits.
· Assist with the daily operation of the visitor services desk and gift shop at the planetarium.

Working Conditions

Majority of work is performed in a professional office environment and in the planetarium, including some dim lighting and high-volume levels. Some offsite may be required including outdoor, visual astronomy programs.

Other Job Functions

· Assist with various events, including events held in conjunction with the Museum of Coastal Carolina
· Assist with staff training
· Assist in point-of-sale and daily reporting
