Job Summary

Gateway Community and Technical College invites applications for a Philosophy adjunct instructor for a May 13, 2024 start teaching PHI 110, Medical Ethics.

This part-time remote instructor position will work collaboratively with students, fellow faculty, and staff to ensure the education needs of the individual learner are met. They will work to empower students to be fully engaged in the online learning environment, promoting growth, and academic development.


Job Duties:

  • Provide instruction and familiarize students within the area of study.
  • Provide instruction to students in both theory and practice in their respective field(s).
  • Maintenance and care of online classrooms, online labs & online training materials will also be expected.
  • Keep abreast of changes in their field and help keep the programs updated.
  • Candidates should be energetic, enthusiastic, and have an in-depth understanding of the principles in their discipline or field.
  • Be present in the online classroom by engaging students using a variety of research-based strategies.
  • Provide timely grading, and meaningful feedback consistently.
  • Foster a supportive online course community.
  • Complete online instructor responsibilities, such as no-show reporting, Starfish surveys, submission of final grades, last day of attendance, and reporting student learning outcomes by outlined deadlines.
  • Teaches assigned course schedule.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in the teaching discipline OR master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Philosophy.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment and external business and community partners, representing himself/herself professionally and courteously.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and, in writing.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with online Learning Management Systems (LMS). Blackboard and teaching online is preferred.
  • Experience in and understanding of working with students from diverse populations is preferred.
  • Experience working at the community college level is preferred.
