Job Description Assists pharmacist and prepares medications to be dispensed under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist according to State and Federal law.

Experience
No experience necessary or retail experience as pharmacy technician

Preferred Qualifications
Enrollment in an accredited college of pharmacy
Knowledge of medical/pharmaceutical terminology and generics
Experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail setting

Education
High school diploma

Certification Summary
Georgia pharmacy technician or pharmacy intern registration

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good organizational skills and ability to learn and use computer systems
Proficient in reading, writing, and mathematics

Job Responsibilities
Processes medication orders and dispenses medications under direct licensed pharmacist supervision to ensure safe and appropriate provision of medications to patients, fills all physician orders accurately and efficiently and obtains pharmacist check prior to all dispensing and fills all medication stock orders consistently (e.g., Urgent Care, Specialty Care Centers, ancillary nursing units, Pyxis, floor stock, anesthesia and operating room code trays) completely/accurately and obtains pharmacist check prior to dispensing.
Assists pharmacists by anticipating and prioritizing workload accurately and efficiently, organizes and prioritizes phone calls, window traffic, and workload effective, keeps pharmacist informed and maintains a smooth workflow in area by utilizing problem-solving skills.
Distributes medications in a timely manner to ensure prompt patient service, distributes medications to nursing units, utilizes discharge and transfer reports as directed, prioritizes orders such as Now/Stat, ASAP, and routine to ensure appropriate turnaround time.
Prepares and compounds all medications using proper techniques to ensure safe products for patients under direct pharmacist supervision, prepares and compounds all medications accurately, prepares products cost-effectively and minimizes waste and logs all medications properly.
Maintains adequate supplies of all stock items in a clean and organized environment, maintains adequate par levels of supplies, documents needed medications on want book, and follows up with next shift on any outstanding medication needs, prepares and maintains adequate supply of stock solutions, maintains par levels of assigned prepackaged medications, restocks area at end of shift to ensure adequate supplies for next shift, checks assigned stock sections of pharmacy monthly for expired medications, pulls expired medications, flags medications that will expire within next three months, and documents when complete and maintains an organized and clean environment.
Completes and maintains pharmacy records and documents all assigned quality assurance responsibilities, e.g., hood cleaning, refrigerator temperature, and area of inspection.
Maintains individual competence and develops professional practice skills, participates in required departmental training, education, and certification, completes all required orientation/training checklist(s) and modules, completes projects to develop professional skills and achieve department goals, uses extra time advantageously to help others or to work on department projects, Contributes to achievement of department goals and objectives through effective participation.
Precepts new and existing staff members, participates in orientation and training of new and existing employees, uses effective educational techniques in all training and educational activities, identifies performance deficiencies of new employees and provides feedback/training in an effort to correct deficiencies and provides feedback of employee progress routinely to Education Pharmacist or team leaders.

System Responsibilities
Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
