Job Role Summary
The Peer Support Specialist interacts with clients with the goal to engage in services/treatment outside of the Engagement Center.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Proactively contributes to Eskenazi's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi values
- Meets with clients multiple times a day to provide ADL assistance
- Observes and documents patient functioning
- Interacts with clients with the goal to engage in services/treatment outside of the Engagement Center
- Provides the following:
- social skills instruction
- training in problem solving in daily living
- crisis management and emergency interventions
- written/electronic documentation of observations or interactions
- understanding and support for clients that are under the influence of substances
- assistance in maintaining a clean and safe environment
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalence (GED)
- Experience in a human services area, teaching and observing
- Must be able to verify completion of state approved training program and passing score on certification exam
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic knowledge of behavioral health and addictions
- Knowledge of:
- community resources
- patient rights and responsibilities
- certified recovery specialist code of ethics
- Basic first aid/CPR
- Mental health and addictions
- Documentation and billing practice
- CPI
- Confidentiality process and procedure
- Annual education
- Legal issues
- OBHP eligible
