POSITION TITLE: Farsi, Tagalog, or Hindi-Urdu speaking PEARLS Coach

HOURS: Part Time, 20 Hours

The Council on Aging-Southern California is a private, nonprofit corporation, serving older adults and individuals with disabilities since 1973. The Council mission is to promote the independence, health, and dignity of older adults through compassion, education, and advocacy.

The Program to Encourage Active, Rewarding Lives (PEARLS) is a short-term culturally and linguistically responsive holistic service based on skill-building and problem-solving interventions that supports underserved community dwelling older adults who are experiencing depression, isolation, and other co-occurring chronic health issues. The program was developed by the University of Washington Health Promotion Research Center and is an evidence-based practice that has demonstrated effectiveness in reducing depressive symptoms, increasing quality of life, and advancing health equity in aging.

Position Objective: The PEARLS coach is responsible for delivering the individual interventions of the program in fidelity with the evidenced-based model (EBM). The PEARL coach provides individual assessments, person-centered Problem-Solving Treatment (PST), and Behavioral Activation (BA) activities to the program participants.

JOB FUNCTIONS (including but not limited to):

· Successfully complete PEARLS certification program.

· Conduct targeted community outreach to identify new Farsi, Tagalog, or Hindi-Urdu speaking-participants who meet program’s eligibility criteria.

· Deliver in-home screenings and assessments.

· Present cases at team meetings to receive appropriate clinical feedback.

· Provide psychoeducation and care navigation.

· Assist participants in developing individual goals and strategies to achieve them.

· Deliver person-centered Problem-Solving Treatment (PST) based on the PEARLS EBM.

· Facilitate Behavioral Activation (BA) activities for the program participants based on the PEARLS EBM.

· Manage own case load utilizing the Wellware database system.

· Submit programmatic outcomes data to the Data Analyst.

· Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications:

· Must be bilingual English- Farsi, Tagalog, OR Hindi-Urdu speaking.

· BA in Human Services, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Gerontology, or related fields.

· Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.

· Outstanding interpersonal skills.

· Ability to develop a sense of trust and rapport with program participants.

· Knowledge of Orange County community services and resources preferred.

· Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and in team settings.

· Ability to work independently to achieve goals managing time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to maintain objectivity and confidentiality in documenting and discussing caseload.

· Proficient in modern office practices including Microsoft excel, word, and outlook software.

· Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

· A valid California driver’s license, proof of current vehicle insurance, reliable transportation and the ability to transport oneself to scheduled appointments in the community.

· Submit to and successfully complete a Live Scan fingerprinting background check.
