Job Description

Department Overview:
The Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center (HTC) is home to over 45 faculty and staff, engaged in the clinical, research, public health, outreach and education missions. The HTC is a multidisciplinary center, providing comprehensive care to adult, adolescent and pediatric patients.
Function/Duties of Position:
This position provides financial counseling to patients of the HTC at OHSU. They will serve as an advocate and educator, helping patients understand insurance benefits as they relate to their bleeding or clotting diagnosis. This position will work closely with the HTC Social Work and Factor Program teams to help navigate patient care and medication billing questions, and will collaborate with the Social Work Specialist in identifying financial assistance programs.

The ideal candidate will be a highly organized professional with excellent customer service skills. The candidate will need a strong understanding of medical and pharmacy benefits, to include Medicare/Medicaid.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Education or related field.
  • Three years of experience, demonstrating knowledge of casework methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology and Medicaid/Medicare.
  • Knowledge of the implications of the effect of illness, injury and/or disability on patients and their families.
  • Intermediate skills with MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Experience interacting directly with patients and their families.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an academic healthcare or clinical setting.
  • Experience working with the bleeding disorder community.
