Department: Surgical Technology

Campus Location:

Salary Range: $1,114-$1,203 per FLH

Work Mode: This position requires some regular in-person presence on campus or at alternative locations, depending on business needs of the office.

Position Type: Part-Time Faculty, Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The surgical technology program is looking for instructors who are enthusiastic and engaging with students and who are willing to be part of a team with other full time and part time faculty. We currently need clinical instructors who are responsible for observing and evaluating students in the hospital setting and helping to maintain positive relationships with clinical site personnel. Hours are arranged based on instructor availability and clinical site schedules. The position could lead to teaching in the classroom and lab as openings occur.

The surgical technology program is CAAHEP accredited.

Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Teach assigned class(es) in accordance with expectations specified by the department chair.
Assess student progress in meeting the learning objectives through formal and informal assessment.
Meet required deadlines for submitting grades, attendance, and other information, as required.
Observe, instruct and evaluate students in the clinical setting on a weekly to bi-weekly basis; Provide timely feedback to students on their clinical performance;
Communicate with clinical site personnel regarding student performance and program expectations;
Submit all required clinical assessments to the Academic Chair/Clinical Coordinator;
Respond in a timely manner to emails, information requests, and required clinical assessments;
Attend off-campus locations with on-campus presence as needed;
Participate in assessment process, as appropriate;
Pursue ongoing formal training designed to maintain and upgrade professional and instructional capabilities;
Maintain certification credentials and provide proof of continuing certification within 5 days of recertification;
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and annual program advisory board meetings, as well as program related activities as necessary;
Comply with the current clinical partner's on boarding requirements and AACC's employment requirements;
Participate in periodic review and revision of course materials and learning outcomes assessments;
Participate in preparation for CAAHEP accreditation reports and site visits as necessary;
Maintain confidentiality of student information;
Enforce appropriate departmental standards, safety procedures, and expectations of students in the classroom, clinical, and lab that comply with AACC Surgical Technology Department policies and procedures;
Prepare and maintain course outlines, objectives and course syllabi as necessary;
Conduct oneself with professionalism and surgical conscience at all times.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited surgical technology program;
Must be a certified surgical technologists (CST) having passed the NBSTSA certification exam;
Minimum total of two years experience, either in the operating room first scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.
Computer skills sufficient to use Microsoft Office and program related tools for teaching and tracking/evaluating students;
Must be organized, highly detail oriented, and committed to being responsive to email and other student and program communications.
