Position Overview:
The Shelter Advocate plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and empowerment of residents at our emergency shelter. This position involves providing crisis intervention, emotional support, advocacy, and referrals to clients while maintaining a secure and welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and emotional support to shelter residents.
Conduct intakes, assessments, and safety planning with new residents.
Answer hotlines and other incoming calls, providing assistance and information to callers.
Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of client interactions and services provided, including data entry using agency software.
Assist with daily shelter operations, including supply distribution and maintaining cleanliness.
Facilitate and encourage participation in life skills activities and support groups for residents.
Uphold safety protocols and ensure a secure environment for all clients and staff.
Collaborate with other staff members to coordinate services and support for clients.
Qualifications:
Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other trauma is preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle crisis situations calmly and effectively.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed preferred.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting the privacy of clients.
Must pass a drug screen and background check.
Preferred Skills:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.
Knowledge of community resources and services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft 365.
Current available positions are for Friday, Saturday and Sunday 8am to 4pm and 12am to 8 am
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $11.50 per hour
