This position is part of a collective bargaining unit represented by SEIU Local 500 - Provost & Enrollment Division. That means the terms and conditions of your employment are governed by university policy (including the Staff Personnel Policies Manual) and any collective bargaining agreement entered into between American University and SEIU Local 500 - Provost & Enrollment Division.
Job Description:
Summary:
The Audio Visual Technician assists with the setup and operation of audiovisual equipment for classes, conferences, and special events at the Spring Valley Building. The Technician also helps the office maintain staff presence by answering the SVB AV phone line and assisting with AV scheduling. This shift is Monday-Friday 8:00am-1:00pm.
Essential Functions:
  • Assisting with classroom and event support
  • Recording AV requests.
  • Assisting faculty with lecture capture.
  • Testing AV equipment and replacing defective or malfunctioning cables.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
  • Part-Time.
  • This is a union-eligible position.
Salary Range:
  • $17/hour minimum.
Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Excellent customer service, organization, communication, and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of video recording techniques, and a basic understanding of signal flow for both audio and video.
  • Working knowledge of Mac and PCs.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Previous AV experience or a background in audio technology or visual media. Familiarity with Mac and PCs, Video conferencing software (Zoom etc.), Blu-Ray players, projection systems, PA systems, video cameras, digital audio recorders, as well as basic and advanced control systems.
