Job Description

Overview:
This position will provide emotional support to families at the bedside, parent representation on patient satisfaction committees, an advocate and liaison with families in both NICUs, participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, and support/representation/services to parents, physicians, staff, managers, etc. This position will also assist in developing and implementing research and patient care protocols designed to improve neurodevelopmental outcomes in chronic neonatal patients by promoting parental involvement.

Part-time (20 hours per week)

Responsibilities:
  • An integral member of the BPD interdisciplinary care team, providing the parent?s perspective, encouraging parent participation, facilitating communication, and improving family centered care.
  • Aids in developing and sustaining the BPD parent involvement in neurodevelopmental outcome initiative.
  • Provide bedside support and adjustment to hospital environment for families with an infant admitted to the NICU.
  • Offer support and information that compliments a multidisciplinary approach to families coping with infants in the NICU.
  • Offers ongoing one-on-one or group support.
  • Improve family bonding and preparation for discharge by supporting family involvement at the bedside.
  • Serves as an advocate for parents, expressing concerns or needs.
  • Functions as a member and parent representative on interdisciplinary teams, assisting parents in providing timely feedback.9. Actively participates or recruits parents to participate in "How's Your Baby?" survey.
  • Uses information from parents to improve services.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • High School Graduate.

Experience:
  • Parent of a NICU graduate required.
  • Familiarity with chronic neonatal diseases.
  • Knowledge of family-centered care principles.
