Job Description

Overview:
Responsible for the operation and oversight of the Occupational Health program on the Roslindale, Dedham and supportive functions for Orchard Cove Campuses. Manages and supervises the staff in Occupational Health and is responsible for the adherence to practice and legal standards. Provides complete oversight for Worker’s compensation including physicals, completion of necessary paperwork, and appropriate case management of all work injury cases. Responsible for educating leadership regarding workers compensation and Occupational Health issues and facilitates and coordinates systems and processes to minimize workplace injury and colleague safety. Serves as pivotal leadership to the Workforce Safety Committee. Responsible for day to day operations of occupational health including staffing, adherence to established budgets, and ensuring efficiency and timely delivery of services. Creates a culture of teamwork and collaboration with all interacting departments. In collaboration with human resources advances programming to support wellbeing of employees.
Responsibilities:
Managerial Oversight
      • Determine OH staffing needs for Roslindale, Dedham;hires and trains new staff as needed.
      • Monitors and evaluates staff performance.
      • Ensures compliance to department standards and regulatory requirements.
      • Oversees processes and systems to ensure efficiency, compliance, and productivity of the department.
      • Oversees clinical protocols and determines appropriateness of treatments provided by the department in relation to regulations and resources.
      • Collaborates with medical staff and leadership to provide care to employees as needed and within scope of Occupational Health Service
      • Works in collaboration with CNO to manage and create department budget.
      • Identifies and facilitates performance improvement projects.
      • Ensures complete and accurate record keeping and reports.
      • Develops and provides presentations to communicate results and/or educational information.
      • Educates leadership regarding Workers Compensation and Occupational Health issues.

Clinical Management, Triage, Treatment
      If Nurse Practitioner
      • - performs physical exams to meet compliance
      • Receive, evaluate and respond appropriately to employees visiting the Occupational Health Department with work related and non-work-related injuries, complaints and/or requests for assistance.
      • Administer first aid to injured employees in accordance within scope of practice.
      • Arrange transportation for employees requiring additional medical treatment or hospital services.
      • Administer necessary medications to alleviate various complaints.
      • Manages work-related injuries; triages non-work- related injuries/illnesses; available for consult for management by other staff members

Pre-Employment Screening
      • Partner with Human Resources recruitment team on creating pre-employment health screening schedule and mandatory forms to be completed.
      • Initiate post job offer clearance of potential employees and report to Human Resources via spreadsheet.
      • Arrange for appropriate testing and training if needed.
      • Advise Human Resources of suitability of candidate as necessary.

Work Related Injuries
      • Oversee and manage worker’s compensation cases in conjunction with Director of Benefits and other staff; delegate as appropriate depending on the nature of the injury
      • Review incident reports of work incurred injuries and follow up to determine employee’s progress.
      • Work with employees, managers and primary care providers, including facility providing health services, individual’s physician, specialists, etc., to facilitate the employee’s return to work in the most appropriate time frame and to facilitate job accommodation where required.
      • Attend workers compensation committee meetings and provides current data and reports required for trending and outcome measurements.
      • Initiate systems and processes needed to improve worker’s compensation program.
      • Provide reports and updates to appropriate leaders and collaborates with the team to meet identified goals.
      • Collaborates with HR to ensure appropriate case management and consistency with current employment laws and regulations.

Medical Leaves/ADA Accommodations
      • Oversees processes related to medical leaves and ADA accommodations. Collaborates with the Occupational Health team and Human Resource personnel to establish effective systems and workflow.
      • Reviews data and adherence to established processes to ensure consistency amongst both campuses.
      • Stays abreast of legal implication and works collaboratively with Human Resources to ensure standardized approach.

Injury Prevention
      • Serves as one of pivotal leaders on the Employee Safety Committee. Trends workplace injury data and provides education to employees as appropriate to minimize work injury. Participates in Performance improvement to identify trends/patterns and facilitate process/systems to minimize workplace injury.
      • Investigate cumulative trauma complaints injury occurs and refer to PT/Occupational Therapy if necessary. Follow all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandates in this regard.
      • Takes a systems approach to safety practice, and injury mitigation strategies.
      • Oversees preparation of recordable injuries and submits to BLS and assures posting of the OSHA Form 300 by Feb 1st. The form shall remain posted until April 30th or as per OSHA standard.

Infection Control
      • Initiate and coordinate various prophylactic programs for prevention or control of infectious diseases for employees.
      • Stays abreast of infection control committee information and collaborates with infection control team.
      • Provide employee oversight during infectious outbreaks and maintain employee records.
      • Initiates vaccine programs for flu and covid-19 vaccine.
      • Coordinates post-exposure prophylaxis.
      • In conjunction with infection control and leadership develops infection control planning strategies for disease entities for safe return to work such as covid-19

Miscellaneous
      • Adhere to established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. Develop and update departmental policies and procedures as needed.
      • Perform other related duties as directed or as responsibilities dictate.
Required Qualifications:
III. Qualifications
      • Current Massachusetts license as a Nurse Practitioner
      • Computer literacy required.
      • Demonstrated knowledge of worker’s compensation. Occupational Health Certification (preferred)
