Overview:
The Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors, including rhythm interpretation, documenting of patient information according to protocol, and providing RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. The result of successful performance in this position contributes significantly to the overall wellbeing of the patient.

Responsibilities:
Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient’s cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders. Measures and interprets patient’s heart rhythm and documents on patient record per departmental standards. May initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge. Performs configuration as necessary. Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Central Telemetry. Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers. Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.

Education:

Must be at least 16 years of age
High school diploma/equivalent or in a high school/equivalent program
Able to read, write, comprehend, and speak fluent English

Experience:

Experience in telemetry monitoring preferred but not required. Classes and training available.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
