We are a fast-growing Minnesota Home Healthcare provider and we are searching for a Direct Support Professional to join our team.

We are hiring one person to support one individual.

Week 1: (approx. 28 hrs)

Sun, Mon,Tues: 4:15p-10:15p

Wed, Thurs: 5:30p-10:15p

Week 2: (approx. 29 hrs)

Sun, Mon,Tues,Wed: 4:15p-10:15p

Thurs: 5:30p-10:15p

About the position:

We are searching for a passionate individual to mentor, engage with, and challenge an able-bodied and active 26-year-old gay man as he brings his already successful life to further independence and stronger community involvement. Support is needed due to a brain-based disability and history of trauma.

The person you support is one really cool guy who enjoys living life to the fullest. Others describe him as gregarious, curious, hardworking, funny, and industrious – we couldn’t agree more!

He and his cat live in Uptown on the 4th floor of a beautiful condo with NO ELEVATOR. You must be able to walk up and down several flights of stairs and not be allergic or opposed to cats.

He is very smart and enjoys math, science and creating/analyzing spreadsheets. You must be comfortable with extracting data from a spreadsheet and formatting it to create a weekly progress report. He has a great job in Bloomington and needs to be picked up at 5:30 on Weds and Thurs so you must have a reliable vehicle. He enjoys the outdoors and being active therefore you must encourage and participate in these activities. He also has a strong interest and degree in Robotics and would enjoy talking with you about them.

He has a desire to expand his participation in the community as a whole as well as become more integrated into the LGBTQ community. You must be willing to support and encourage him as he continues to increase his social skills. Part of your role will include collaboratively planning and participating in activities.

He continues to focus on his overall health through exercise and healthy cooking/eating and enjoys activities such as biking, walking, kayaking, skiing, going to the gym and gourmet cooking. Being active and outside the home is essential.

The right person for this role will be confident and secure and want to play an important and encouraging role in this mans life. You will posses an engaging personality, a knack for budgeting and teaching financial prowess, and an authentic desire to enrich his life.

It is your unique contributions, ideas, and high emotional maturity/intelligence that will continue to drive his success. You must be comfortable and adept at providing immediate feedback and suggestions to further his growth.

Part of your role will include collaborating to meal plan, meal prep and grocery shop for healthy food. It is essential that you encourage, engage and provide educational opportunities when needed in these activities.

You will provide one-to-one personal support, companionship, and supervision to empower the person you support to fully integrate into the community, and gain full independence at home.

Daily activities may include transportation in your vehicle from his home to work/medical appointments/activities/etc., administering medication, collaboratively planning and scheduling activities, attending and engaging in his social activities, organizing and cleaning his apartment, encouraging and participating in exercise, meal planning and grocery shopping, etc. Officially, you will help to support his independent living and social skill development, health maintenance, personal care, and behavioral development in accordance with his Community Support Plan.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills required:

This position requires you to possess an optimistic and confident personality, a knack for organization and budgeting, and the ability to be encouraging yet firm. You must desire to fully engage with this vibrant gay man as he strives to live an independent and integrated life.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. College experience is beneficial. Knowledge, understanding, and/or experience with disability, autism, FASD is welcomed.

Emotional Maturity:
Must be LGBTQ-friendly, patient, intellectually curious, able and willing to set positive limits.

Individual must be responsible and dependable.

Ideal candidate will be energetic, and enthusiastic to attend social outings.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Required:
Valid driver’s license in good standing. Car registration and vehicle insurance as candidate will be providing transportation for individual receiving services.

$23.00 an hour
