Job Description

Medical Assistant

24 hours- 12 hour Days  9:00 AM - 9:00 PM

Position serving Brigham & Womens Hospital service area

In order to meet the timely needs for care of patients admitted to Home Hospital, the Medical Assistant will be an integral part of the Healthcare at Home care team.   Home Hospital is a new and innovative care delivery model, where patients receive hospital level care, right in their homes. 

 Reporting to the Executive Director of Nursing, the medical assistant will work together with nurses, paramedics, physicians, physician's assistant and /nurse practitioners. to provide care and service to patients.   The Medical Assistant will be expected to have working knowledge of the Healthcare at Home care model and support the patient, clinical staff, and other members of the care team in providing patients with care as efficiently as possible.  

 PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

 General Responsibilities

 Active participation in patient care including anticipatory preparation obtaining vital signs, doing phlebotomy including proper identification and handling of specimens, doing EKG's and performing other procedures as determined relevant to the individual patient.

Assist our patients within visit needs, as applicable.
Supports patient care and the health care team by expediting care of patient during visit.  The care may include remote patient monitor set up and review, completion of checklist, transport of specimens or returned equipment as needed.
Demonstrates a strong sense of shared responsibility, maintaining supplies and equipment as needed for field team.
Shares responsibility with other medical assistants for the quality, safety and laboratory check systems in the clinical environment including Quality Assurance for Point of Care testing.
Assumes responsibility for appropriate monitoring and arranging for restocking of supplies for the clinical need.
Assist with Pre-admission phone calls as needed
Assist with post visit follow up calls as needed

   Comfortable in a practice environment/culture that promotes ongoing change toward process improvement.
   Must have reliable transportation 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS 

   Current Basic CPR certification required

EDUCATION:  

   Minimum of high school diploma, GED or equivalent 
   Graduate of an MGH approved Medical Assistant program required

EXPERIENCE: 

    6-12 months Medical Assistant experience preferred.
