This Laboratory Genetic Counseling Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Triaging phone and e-mail inquiries made to Lab for genetic testing, with support from laboratory genetic counselor and in conjunction with laboratory specimen management staff. Providing information about lab testing, test ordering and insurance pre-authorization to clinicians.
  • Researching and developing reference lab comparisons by researching sensitivity, specificity, detection rates, cost and turnaround times.
  • Maintaining and updates client resources, including lab test fact-sheets and hospital websites.
  • Developing standard templates for frequent inquiries and communications.
  • Providing support for the insurance preauthorization process, including confirming test and lab selection, CPT code(s), and providing additional laboratory details to support authorization requests.
  • Ensuring coordination of required requisitions and clinical history/pedigree for send-out genetic tests.
  • Obtaining logistical guidance for test coordination from reference labs including sample requirements, charges, CPT codes and requisition/clinical documentation requirements.
  • Tracking remote sample collection.
  • Identifying, investigating and resolving specimen and result problems related to genetic testing; collects information about potential systems problems or needs and communicates information to appropriate personnel.
  • Providing administrative support for the coordination of laboratory genetics meetings (e.g., BEST Committee), including scheduling, agenda and meeting minute’s management.
  • Participating in on-going quality improvement for the laboratory. Developing, producing and maintaining standard Lab policies pertaining to genetic testing.
  • Providing data for Quality Improvement program, and actively seeks quality improvement opportunities. Assesses processes, participates in process design or redesign.
  • Keeping abreast of changes of ICD-10 and CPT codes related to Genetic testing.

To qualify, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or related science field required
  • Prior experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.
  • Customer Service in a healthcare setting is preferred

Shift/Hours:

  • Part – time 20 hours
  • Part time Remote/Hybrid
