Encore at the J (The Jewish Community Center’s Dance, Tumbling & Music program) offers classes for preschool, beginners, intermediate and advanced students in a wide range of performing arts skills: Tiny Tots, Creative Movement, Combo classes, Tap, Ballet, Pointe, Acrobatic Arts, Lyrical, Jazz, Hip Hop, Pre-Compete and Competition Teams.

We are seeking dance instructors and subs to teach a variety of classes. Experience with dancers ages preschool through high school is preferred.

Schedule

Wednesdays: 4-8 pm. Jazz & Lyrical Competition Rehearsal, Beginner Tap/Ballet, Intermediate/Advanced Ballet, PrePointe.

Thursdays: 3-6:30 pm. PreK Hip hop, Advanced Hip hop, Competition Hip hop, Beginning Hip hop.

Instructors may be asked to sub including Monday-Sunday daytime and evening hours.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and fun environment.
• Teach & demonstrate the appropriate skills and curriculum (supplied) for age levels and skill levels.
• Choreograph and teach Recital dances when needed.
• Communicate important information with parents. Hand out notes and information on time.
• Be prepared and dressed to reflect a positive image of The J.
• Have the classroom set-up and ready for appropriate lesson.
• Communicate with supervisor about any problems and concerns in the classroom.

• Multiple years training in performing arts, including ballet, acro, tap, jazz, hip hop and/or lyrical technique (must be able to provide examples of choreography).
• B.F.A. or other degree related to the area teaching preferred, but not required.
• Experience teaching a variety of ages and skill levels.
• Ability to provide exemplary customer service to students and their parents/guardians.
• Willingness to communicate openly with other staff members, collaborate on performances and to occasionally sub classes is required.
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students of all ages and abilities.

Physical Requirements

• This job is physically active and requires constant standing, walking, movement and body coordination to demonstrate skills.
• Constant talking and hearing to communicate with students as well as parents.
• Frequent stooping/crouching and crawling.
• Occasional lifting up to 45lbs.
