Job Description

Description:

The J offers American Red Cross group swim lessons for children age 6 months and up. We offer classes for the beginner to the experienced swimmer who may be working on stroke proficiency and endurance. We also offer private swim lessons for all ages and abilities.


Schedule:

Aug-Dec on Thursdays 5-8pm and Sundays 12-3pm.

Additional hours available for:

  • swim team coaching
  • private swim lessons (open schedule depending on need)

Essential Functions

  • Provides quality instruction to individuals and small groups as assigned
  • Teaches skill-based instruction as outlined by the American Red Cross
  • Maintains accurate attendance and performance records
  • Follows and enforces all safety guidelines, policies and procedures of The J and the Aquatics Department
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Able to communicate effectively with children and parents
  • Able to provide excellent customer service
  • Previous competitive swimming, teaching or coaching experience a plus
  • We will train new employees to teach private, custom swim lessons

Physical Requirements

Requires constant talking and hearing to communicate instructions with students, constant repetitive motions and eye/hand/foot coordination to demonstrate strokes as well as frequent standing. Will occasionally walk, lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs., climb ladders in and out of pool, and stoop/crouch. This position also involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions depending on the season, and varying pool temperatures.
