Job Description

The Springfield Food Co-op is seeking a Grocery Clerk to round out our team. Running our store is a collaborative process and this is great opportunity for an individual looking to learn more about the cooperative process.

The Springfield Food Co-op has been a community staple for almost 30 years. We are open to all, and work to provide healthy, natural affordable grocery, wellness, fresh produce, meats, and deli items to everyone in our community. We are member-owned by over 2,300 individuals, and we serve anyone who walks through the doors. We strive to support our local economy with excellent jobs, fair prices to local farmers and vendors, accessible food options, and community giving.

Grocery Receiver and Stocker

POSITION SUMMARY

Ensure that goods are received, priced, and fully stocked according to established procedures. To ensure that displays, coolers, and shelves are clean, neat, and full stocked while providing prompt and responsive customer service.

Non-exempt, part to full-time position
Reports to the Grocery Manager

PAY LEVEL: I

RESPONSIBILITIES

Stocking

  • Learn POS system and pricing systems to ensure stocking efficiency and accurate pricing.
  • Ensure displays and shelves are fully stocked and rotated according to guidelines established in grocery department.
  • Be familiar with plan for back-stock storage and develop systematic knowledge of goods in back-stock; communicate with Grocery team regarding best department practices.
  • Participate in sale changeovers as needed.
  • Maintain good attention to detail with regard to all shelf tags and signage.
  • Attend department and storewide meetings.

Receiving

  • Learn and stay current with all delivery schedules and ensure that receiving area is prepared for incoming deliveries.
  • Ensure deliveries are received promptly and accurately and all products and invoices are routed to the appropriate areas or invoice box.
  • Ensure damaged and/or mis-picked items are handled according to established procedures.

Department Maintenance

  • Dispose of damaged or spoiled goods promptly with appropriate notice to Grocery Manager.
  • Remove trash, clean cases, and keep prep and storage areas in clean, orderly condition.
  • Use equipment safely. Monitor cooler and walk-in temperatures and follow procedures for handling breakdowns. Advise Grocery Manager of equipment repair and replacement needs.
  • Participate in quarterly inventory.

Customer Service

  • Assist customers with grocery questions and special orders in prompt, friendly manner while continuing high levels of productivity in stocking.
  • Respond to calls for assistance with customer needs, especially from Front End Team.
  • Be clear about regular items out of stock and when they are expected, if possible.
  • Develop sufficient product knowledge to be able to answer customers’ questions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Facility with numbers and basic calculator procedures
  • Demonstrated experience and/or willingness to work with the public
  • Attention to detail
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, clear instructions
  • Ability and willingness to work hard and independently and to manage time productively
  • Willing to be a team player
  • Ability to work inside of a refrigerator for short periods of time
  • Ability to lift and move 50(+) lbs., climb stairs
  • Familiarity with natural and organic foods (desirable, not required)
  • Knowledge of co-ops and member owned organizations (desirable, not required)

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $14.75 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week
