Introduction


Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) is looking to hire a Part-Time (0.6 FTE) Food Service Assistant 2 position. This position will be scheduled for 24 hours per week between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm as four-to-eight hour shifts, Monday through Friday and every other weekend. Hours will include some split shifts, plus overtime as needed. WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

A $2,000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years; who stay with WMHI in the position until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,000 upon hire and $1,000 after completing probation.

Position Summary


As a Food Service Assistant 2 in the cafeteria, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Serving quantity foods, cafeteria style, for approximately 200 people including up to 100 modified diets.
  • Assembling trays and nourishments for residents.
  • Monitoring sanitation and safety.
  • Upholding security in cafeteria areas.

Salary Information


The starting salary is $16.78 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/09.

This position is eligible for a night differential of $0.80 for hours worked between 6 pm to 6 am, and a weekend differential of $0.80 for hours worked between midnight Friday to midnight Sunday.

Job Details


All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by WMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

These positions have physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 30 lbs. in the cafeteria, bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, stooping, standing, sitting and working on feet for extended periods of time. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have both of the following:

  • Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, early morning or early evenings, and overtime as needed.
  • Training and/or experience using a computer to enter data.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Knowledge of basic sanitation, hand washing and safety standards in a food service environment.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Previous food service or production experience.
  • ServSafe certification (or equivalent food service certification).
  • Experience working cooperatively as part of a team.
