Job Description


Main Function:

  • Performs 2D/M-mode echocardiograms, assists the cardiologist in the performance of non-invasive cardiac testing

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs 2D/M-mode echocardiograms
  • Performs Stress echocardiograms
  • Performs Dobutamine stress echocardiograms
  • Performs Transesophageal echocardiograms
  • Performs 12 lead EKG’s.
  • Identifies each patient and reviews each patient’s order for consistency of procedure ordered with clinical diagnosis and all demographic information.
  • Assess patient condition, ensures patient safety through proper handling techniques
  • Records pertinent data on requisition at all times
  • Reviews each completed procedure for technical accuracy, presents completed procedure for cardiologist’s interpretation and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
  • Operates and reviews studies within the echo digital storage system
  • Process all patients through the electronic medical information system to ensure proper documentation and billing information.
  • Demonstrates ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the physician’s orders.
  • Contributes to the efficient operation of the department
  • Report all safety hazards and/or equipment malfunction to supervisor immediately
  • Establishes and maintains a good rapport and working relationship with departmental staff, patients, families, physicians and all other customers.

Qualifications


Education:

Successful completion of a CAAHEP approved ultrasound training program preferred.

Credentials

: Employees must be credentialed in echocardiography from ARDMS or CCI.

Experience:

Prior experience performing echocardiograms.

Contacts:

Patients, visitors, Physicians and hospital Staff.

Physical Demands:

Pushing and pulling 400 lb. wheeled echo machine, helping patients ambulate to bed and positioning patients on their sides.

Working Conditions:

Dimly lit environment for the performance of echocardiograms.

Hazards:

Possible exposure cleansers for the performance of Transesophageal echocardiograms.
