Description:

Crosswalk provides young people ages 13-17 with a safe shelter 365 days a year. More importantly, Crosswalk offers life-saving and life-changing programs that provide medical care, food, and resources to the young people in our community who need it most.

Youth who access Crosswalk most often have experienced or may be experiencing a variety of inequities and disparities; including but not limited to: homelessness, economic instability, high rates of chronic health and mental health conditions, traumatic events, lack of social support, etc. These participants, typically, have developed numerous skills that have helped them survive and meet their needs on the streets, while facing many barriers.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

Work hours will vary depending on events/functions happening and will include weekends, evenings and holidays. The Shelter Staff must be available to be on-call and/or provide additional shift coverage on a rotating schedule: 1 week at a time, at least every 4 weeks.

NOTE: We have weekday evening and weekend day shifts available!

  • The actual work hours can be adjusted based on the employee’s availability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Respect and value all youth, regardless of circumstances, behavior or need.
  • Read and adhere to agency and program policies and procedures.
  • Read and adhere to the state WAC’s.
  • Make necessary notifications when required to the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), Parent/Legal Guardian, Law Enforcement, Supervisors, etc.
  • Understand and adhere to USDA & Food Safety Guidelines.
  • Enforce rules and expectations of Crosswalk at all times, providing necessary documentation as needed.
  • Perform reception duties including but not limited to answering the telephone, taking thorough messages, transferring calls to appropriate staff, answering questions about the program, check in and log services utilized by participants.
  • Record each visitor in an appropriate log book (Youth, donations, or visitors).
  • Complete new intakes on new youth and contact Legal guardians for permission, completing run reports.
  • Understand Foundational Community Support (FCS) criteria, eligibility, and billing requirements.
  • Meet program requirements for billable client services.
  • Distribute needed hygiene products and other necessities to participants.
  • Assist in meal preparation and clean-up.
  • Follow maintenance plans and check off completed daily/nightly cleaning lists.
  • Participate in required staff meetings including regular supervision.
  • Inform participants of upcoming events/activities and responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; including demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
  • Follow on-call procedures and complete on-call log during your on-call rotation.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  • This role has no supervisory responsibilities.


Compensation:

  • Monetary compensation for this role is $20.00 per hour. Hours worked in the night are subject to a shift differential of an additional $0.50 per hour so if you worked overnights, you would make $20.50/Hour.

Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below. These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job.

Required Education and/or Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have:

  • High School Diploma or GED/HSEC
  • One (1) year of experience working directly with children or two (2) years of related education

Certificates and/or Licenses: To perform this job successfully, an individual must:

  • Be eligible to be licensed as Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) and apply for credential within 30 days of hire.
  • Become CPR/First Aid/BBP Certified within 6 months of employment
  • Have a Food Handler’s Permit
  • Have a Valid Driver’s License
  • Must obtain a TB test before employment can begin, or produce results of a negative TB test administered no earlier than 8 months prior to the hire date
  • Must be able to pass the following Background Checks:
  • Washington Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) background check

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience working with high risk youth
  • Experience with time management
  • Experience with being self-sufficient and working independently

Bona Fide Occupational Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age according to the DCYF Licensing Requirements for Direct Care Staff of Overnight Youth Shelters.

  • Proficient reporting skills including auditing data and processes regularly to produce reports and/or communications to applicable stakeholders.
  • Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries with clients using the Reamer’s Model.

Physical Requirements:

In order to meet all expectations of this position, an individual must be able to:

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Ascend and descend stairs. Required use of washers and dryers, as well as standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Perceive text and buttons on the computer screen and discern print and handwriting on paper forms.
  • Frequently required to remain in a stationary position (such as sitting or standing) and to use arms, hands, and fingers to prepare food. Remain in a standing position and move about inside and outside of the shelter. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Access file cabinets, office machinery etc. Required to move around inside the shelter and access various areas - such as the kitchen, bathrooms, etc. for cleaning purposes.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move client possessions, small to medium objects in the office, and/or cleaning supplies (up to 50 pounds). Required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Be able to use the senses of smell and taste in food preparation.

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee may experience the following environmental conditions at the frequency indicated:

  • Noise Conditions: This job operates in a youth shelter environment. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
  • Heat/Cold: May be subject to heat, cold, wet, and/or humid weather conditions, and occasionally extreme heat and/or cold.
  • Injury Exposure: This position requires working with standard office equipment – copy machines, computers, and phones, in addition to washers, dryers and other appliances.
  • Atmospheric Exposures: May be exposed to various scents and perfumes, less than sanitary or uncomfortable conditions, various pests and pathogens, participants’ service and emotional support animals, as well as clients in physical, mental or emotional distress.
