Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Job Title: Counseling Coordinator

Department: Student Affairs

Reports to: Dean of Students

Status: Part-Time, Non-Benefit Eligible

Location: Lisle Campus

Position Summary: Provide mental health care for University students conducted in a student-centered manner. The Coordinator will oversee the overall management, personnel, and operational functions and collaborate on programming responsive to student's needs and enhance student development.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Provides psychotherapy and assessment of students.

Manages departmental staff counselor, and intern staffing, including the completion of quarterly evaluations, goal setting, supervision of daily operations, implementation of department and University policy, problem resolution, and budget management.

Develop, review, and evaluate departmental policies and procedures. Collaborates with academic departments as needed. Ensures compliance of student records with by conducting audits and helping to set department goals in line with the university’s mission and strategic plan. Prepare and complete reports related to department activities.

Develop workshops, seminars, and programs intended to enhance the mental health and well-being of students at the main campus.

Work as a Student Affairs team member and assist in coordinating various student development activities that may include: orientation programs, student training programs, and special student advising.

Other Functions:

1.) Remain apprised of current legal and ethical issues in counseling and higher education.
2.) Participates on standing committees and completes tasks associated with such groups.
3.) Adherence to all Benedictine University and Division of Student Engagement policies and procedures. Work independently and creatively within established guidelines, while at the same time functioning as a member of a team.
4.) Attend departmental and University-related meetings and events.
5.) Strong leadership, administrative, planning, and presentation skills, including oral and written communications.
6.) Work with University offices and departments to coordinate and facilitate program needs, and serve on University committees as needed.
7.) Maintain a high level of organization and ability to manage multiple tasks.
8.) Ability to attain goals through knowledge of regulation and accreditation requirements, as well as incorporate best practices into initiatives.
9.) Ability to create a culture of collaboration with all campus constituents.
10.) Experience working in the areas of inclusion, diversity, equity and/or access.
11.) Employs sound project management practices, methodologies, and principles to accomplish work.
12.) Proven ability to organize information; assess, utilize and navigate online platforms; and conduct detailed data analysis and develop reports based on data.
13.) Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations and matters with diplomacy and superior judgment.
14.) Ability to complete high-level analysis of data.
15.) Demonstrated analytical, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.


Required Qualifications:

Education: Master's Degree Required in Counseling or Clinical Psychology

Experience: Experience in post-secondary education or other student personnel work is necessary. Experience in crisis response or crisis counseling is necessary. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students, faculty, and staff is necessary.

Specific Skills: Staff management, interpersonal/human relation skills, policy development and implementation, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and budget management.

Specific Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications: Yes Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor preferred. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of state and federal health care privacy laws, Title IX, VAWA, ADA, Title II, HIPAA, FERPA, and professional ethics.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Use of computer screen, phone and customer service.
May require bending, or sitting for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The following of campus specific guidelines for pandemic protocols are required.

Travel (If applicable): No

Supervisory Responsibility (if applicable): Yes. Supervises staff counselors, interns, and volunteer staff.

Working Conditions: Normal office conditions. On-call, night, and weekend are required.

Training: As a University employee you are required to complete all University-specific and/or OSHA related training to fulfill your job duties. Specific training will be conducted online or in person. Employees must complete all trainings required by Benedictine University.
