Job Description

Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) has been acquired by Notre Dame of Maryland University as of February 5, 2024. This exciting acquisition will bring new opportunities for students as the transition unfolds. This position will work with MUIH programs and is considered an employee of Notre Dame of Maryland University.

The Cooking Lab Manager works with the Nutrition program to manage inventory of course supplies, advise faculty in procurement of ingredients, assists with shopping, and serves as an assistant during cooking labs.

  • Manage food and equipment purchasing and storage, developing strategies for power buying to reduce costs
  • Assist faculty with shopping for the cooking lab
  • Advise faculty on ingredients, sourcing requested items and ensuring all needs for the labs are fulfilled
  • Manage the transportation of food and equipment to and from the cooking lab venue for each scheduled Whole Foods Cooking Lab course each trimester
  • Monitor the inventory to reduce waste and maintain high standards
  • Develop and manage relationships with chosen sites and critical contacts and continually seeking out relationships with new venues
  • Serving as an additional assistant during cooking labs
  • Assure that standards for sanitation, proper attire, and clean-up are communicated and evaluated during the cooking labs
  • Work with the Cooking Lab Director to develop course syllabi to meet the learning outcomes of established skill sets, ensuring that adjunct faculty tailor their course material to cover the outcomes of the lab
  • Create standards for each cooking lab that are easily implemented throughout
  • Be fully versed in whole foods and keep high standards for whole foods, that are local and seasonal
  • Manage the cooking lab kit packing process
Education and Experience Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or a related field
  • 2+ years in a related field or relevant practice
  • Ability to transport ingredients and very heavy cooking equipment to and from the cooking labs for each scheduled cooking lab class
  • Have a strong skill set for details and thoroughly knowledgeable in whole foods cooking and culinary skills
  • Reliable transportation is necessary

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • This role requires physical stamina: Cooking lab managers can expect long days around hot cooking elements, much of it on their feet.
  • This would require the ability to lift heavy cooking equipment and transport all materials to the cooking lab classes.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50-70 pounds.
