Job Description

Role Summary:
The Medical Assistant Instructor is a key educator in our medical assisting programs, responsible for developing and delivering lesson plans, conducting both in-person and online classes, and evaluating student performance. This role requires a blend of teaching experience and leadership skills, with proficiency in online instruction and familiarity with the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) being essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Adapt to evolving responsibilities as determined by management. Responsibilities include:

  • Meeting the program requirements with a minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Medical Assistant, including teaching and leadership roles.
  • Holding current Medical Assistant certification (CCMA/CMA) or registration (RMA).
  • Instructing students in technical skills like phlebotomy and ECG, with relevant certifications preferred.
  • Utilizing a range of teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, role-playing, and online instructional techniques.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in using Canvas LMS for online teaching and course management.
  • Supervising students in both physical and virtual classroom settings and during field trips.
  • Exhibiting strong writing, documentation, and digital communication skills.
  • Effectively using modern technology in healthcare education and applying critical thinking in practice.
  • Communicating effectively with individuals of different ages.
  • Being skilled in clinical office procedures, including patient interviewing, medical history documentation, vital sign measurement, assisting in examinations and minor surgical procedures, and basic x-ray procedures.
  • Emphasizing the importance of OSHA guidelines, regulations, and proper use of PPE.
  • Conducting practical demonstrations in clinical skills such as taking vital signs and administering injections.
  • Practicing healthcare in a safe, ethical, and legal manner.
  • Assisting in various classroom and online activities, including tutoring, preparing materials, and grading assignments.
  • Applying the nursing process in caring for a diverse range of individuals in different settings.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the relevant vocational field, with a strong emphasis on teaching and leadership roles.
  • Ability to demonstrate that practical experience in the trade or occupation is not essential for proficient teaching (applicable to general science classes).
  • Education may be substituted for experience.
  • Current nationally accredited certifications relevant to the vocational program being taught.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both physical and virtual team environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), network drives, administrative software, and Canvas LMS.
  • Strong customer service, follow-up, and organizational skills.
  • Capable of critical and logical thinking, sound judgment, and problem-solving.
  • Positive attitude, compassionate nature, and a service-oriented approach.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity of information.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills.

Physical, Mental, and Communication Demands:

  • The role frequently requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, and occasionally lifting/moving items up to 25lbs.
  • The work environment includes both traditional office settings and virtual spaces, involving significant computer use for online instruction.
  • The position demands mental agility for effective teaching, leadership, and adapting to various learning environments and student needs.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
