Position Overview:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Middle School/High School Math Tutor to provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions for high school students struggling with various mathematical concepts. The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in mathematics, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.

We are currently seeking individuals to fill tutor positions in the McKinney, Frisco, Prosper, Little Elm, or Aubrey areas. The Tutor will be responsible for meeting with students outside of school hours, and in the student's home.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Educational Support: Deliver personalized math tutoring to high school students, focusing on specific subjects such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and more. For science, deliver personalized science tutoring sessions to high school students, focusing on topics such as biology, chemistry, and physics.

Concept Explanation: Break down complex mathematical concepts into understandable and manageable parts, ensuring students grasp fundamental principles.

Homework Assistance: Assist students with their math and/or science homework, guiding them through problem-solving processes and helping them develop critical thinking skills.

Practice Problems: Provide additional practice problems and exercises to reinforce learning and improve problem-solving abilities.

Study Strategies: Teach effective study strategies, time management techniques, and organizational skills to help students succeed not only in math/science but also in their overall academic pursuits.

Progress Evaluation: Assess students' strengths and weaknesses, monitor their progress, and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.

Individualized Approach: Tailor tutoring sessions to each student's learning style and pace, addressing their unique needs and learning challenges.

Confidence Building: Boost students' confidence in their math abilities by fostering a positive and encouraging learning environment.

Communication and Collaboration: Maintain open and regular communication with students' parents or guardians, providing updates on progress, challenges, and recommendations for improvement. Collaborate with classroom teachers to align tutoring sessions with classroom instruction and reinforce key concepts. Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or currently a college student (3.2 GPA or above in the subject areas you will tutor)
  • No less than 2 years tutoring and/or teaching experience
  • Teacher certification is a PLUS
  • Live or work within 10 miles of one of the following towns: McKinney, Frisco, Prosper, Little Elm, or Aubrey
  • Understanding of TEKS, and willingness to collaborate with the students' teachers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with students and create a positive learning environment.
  • Ability to adapt teaching techniques to meet the diverse learning needs of individual students.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate and inspire students to reach their full potential.
  • Enthusiasm for helping students succeed academically and build confidence in their math/science skills.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and online resources for instructional purposes.
  • Flexibility to work during after-school hours, evenings, or weekends, as needed.
  • Have basic computer skills
  • Organized, punctual, communicative and reliable
  • Able to commit to 9 months of tutoring

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 3 – 15 per week
