OUR COMPENSATION PHILOSOPHY
Summary:
Reports to the Nurse Manager, in collaboration with and with daily activities coordinated by the unit charge nurse. Works collaboratively with patient care team to ensure business functions related to processing of patient information is done accurately. Manages documentation and organization of cardiac rhythm strips. Observes cardiac monitors, interprets patient rhythms and ensures monitoring equipment is operational. Reports changes in patient rhythms to RN. Completes documentation related to telemetry. This description covers the essential functions for the position. Incumbent is expected to perform other similar and related duties as assigned. Management has the right to change or add to the job responsibilities at any time.
1) Observes cardiac monitors. Identifies and reports irregular rhythms to registered nurse for interpretation and intervention. Reports code blue and potentially life threatening rhythms immediately to the RN. Responds to alarms and replaces leads and /or batteries accurately within 5 minutes of alarm.
2) Records, documents and processes EKG monitor strips and other telemetry data for defined patient populations. Posts rhythm strips according to unit standards. Accurately calculates and records rhythm intervals as per unit standards
3) Assists in admitting, assigning and discharging patients to cardiac monitoring system. Enters patient name and medical record number into the telemetry computer. Updates patient room number on the unit roadmap.
4) Sets appropriate alarm, heart rate, respiratory and other parameters and elements of monitoring accurately.
5) Demonstrates knowledge of and initiates emergency procedures as needed/directed within the unit. Verbalizes knowledge and location of emergency equipment. Mobilizes emergency support personnel through immediate telephone contact.
6) Initiates interaction with clinical engineering department concerning mechanical malfunctions within 15 minutes. Communicates with Charge nurse and management , and posts appropriate notice informing staff when monitoring equipment is malfunctioning. Inspects system components for damage and cleans monitors after patient use.
7) Ensures cardiac rhythm strips are filed in chart when patient is transferred or discharged.
8) Clearly communicates information to patient care team. Answers phone and relays messages promptly to team members. Initiates calls to RN staff via unit communication devices related to monitoring and rhythm issues.
