Title: Bikeshare Associate

Location: Duke Farms, Hillsborough, NJ

Reports to: Event and Engagement Manager

Status: Seasonal, part time, non-exempt

Duke Farms restores nature and ecosystems, demonstrates equitable climate transition strategies, and engages leaders and visitors with the wonder of nature and the power to spark change. Our wide-ranging sustainability efforts include the operation of a 1,000-acre park and associated infrastructure supporting over 200,000 public visitors a year.


POSITION

To advance its public engagement efforts, Duke Farms provides several visitor service amenities to ensure a high-quality and safe experience for our visitors. Our bikeshare rental program provides 15,000 people a year with the opportunity to use bicycles to further explore Duke Farms’ expansive property.


The Bikeshare Associate is a member of the Event and Engagement team and supports the bicycle rental services operation at Duke Farms. This customer service position is responsible for handling bicycle rental transactions, answering questions about bicycling and Duke Farms, and making suggestions for visitor experiences while taking the initiative to meet and exceed visitor needs within guidelines. This seasonal, part-time, non-exempt position reports to the Event and Engagement Manager.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome, direct and assist visitors in a cheerful, helpful and professional manner.
  • Manage bicycle transactions using a dedicated point-of-sale system.
  • Provide accurate information, support materials and useful recommendations regarding the programs, facilities and mission of Duke Farms.
  • Assist visitors with general questions about bicycle operation.
  • Perform minor bicycle adjustments for rental riders.
  • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the bicycle rental area, requesting housekeeping services when appropriate.
  • Open/close bike rental area.
  • Perform other duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Customer service experience.
  • Ability to engage positively with visitors and community members, providing assistance and information with a welcoming demeanor and efficiently handling inquiries and unexpected issues in a professional manner.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for providing clear orientation and general information.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a solution-focused approach.
  • Ability to support execution of events that may involve physical activities like setting up, moving equipment or moving extensively around the site.
  • Ability to traverse the 2,700-plus-acre Duke Farms property as well as travel to other locations indoors, outdoors and under various weather conditions.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift bicycles weighing 50 pounds to a height of 12 inches.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Valid driver’s license.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Anticipated starting hourly rate is $15.50, and the final offer will depend on experience.
