Job Description

Job Summary

Assistant Subscription Coordinator assists with Root Cellar’s local food subscription, including on-site pick-up and delivery. This person will assist the Chief Operations Officer in many areas, including interacting with customers, managing digital tools, and coordinating supply chains.

Root Cellar has been a local food fixture on the downtown Columbia scene since 2001. Chelsea and Jake Davis purchased the store in 2011, developed the weekly local food subscription program, and started building a better food system in Mid-Missouri. Headquartered at 1203 Rogers St. Columbia, Root Cellar is a small market making a big impact in our community, curating local farm-fresh food with an authentic story.

Schedule

  • The position is part-time (approximately 20 to 30 hours a week), Tuesday through Saturday (most Saturdays required)
  • Root Cellar is closed on Sunday and Monday

Job Responsibilities

The Assistant will:

  • Assist with managing daily operations, including receiving products, processing customer orders, assembling subscriptions, and delivering subscriptions
  • Generate optimized delivery schedules
  • Make deliveries of subscriptions.

Inventory Management

  • Actively assist in managing product inventory within our physical space.
  • Manage online orders and subscriptions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Clean Driving Record
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal: in person, over the phone, email, and text
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proficiency with Internet use, spreadsheet development, databases, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office suites. Comfort with learning new software platforms
  • General knowledge of vegetables, fruits, and other locally-produced items
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and in the face of changing demands
  • Strong organizational skills and a natural propensity for keeping detailed records
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload among fast-paced and sometimes unpredictable programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience with food systems, food wholesale, food retail, and farming
  • Experience with value-added food production
  • Experience with home delivery

Physical Requirements

● Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs

● Ability to be on your feet for 5 hours

Compensation

The starting pay is $15 an hour but is negotiable based on experience. And a weekly food subscription.
