As a subgrantee of the only federal agency for National Service and Volunteerism, our program is committed to uniting individuals and organizations to tackle our island's toughest challenges, strengthening organizations by providing people power to improve communities while impacting the lives of those we serve and those who serve the community, in hopes of leading to the betterment of communities across our island. The AmeriCorps University of Guam Volunteer Center is an AmeriCorps State and National program under the the Serve Guam Commission. In line with AmeriCorps' motto to "GET THINGS DONE!", and its parent organization's mission "To Enlighten, To Discover, To Serve", our program is committed to making an impact in the community through direct services in not only mentoring and homework assistance in Education, but also outreach and awareness in Environmental Stewardship, Disaster Services, and Capacity Building.
Member Duties : AmeriCorps members enrolled with our program will be tasked with providing homework assistance to students in grades K-12 who demonstrate a need for academic improvement. In addition, members will also be tasked with providing workshops and mentoring sessions geared towards college and post-secondary readiness with the goal of having high school seniors successfully enrolling into a post-secondary institution. In the post-secondary setting, members will be tasked with providing services to post-secondary students who require special accommodations, to include in-class lecture transcription, note-taking and word processing for beneficiaries whose special needs require those accommodations.
