Job Description

Position Description:

Aftercare Teachers are essential members of the team in this childcare environment. They arrive in the classroom each afternoon around 12:00 pm to supervise rest, awaken children from rest, and help them dress for outside play. The Aftercare Teacher provides space for a rhythmic afternoon that includes a snack, a craft/artistic experience, and playtime for children who are picked up between 5:00 and 5:15 pm. The right person for this position will be caring, warm, and nurturing with children while also being able to hold consistent boundaries for them.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have prior experience working with young children in either an educational or home setting.
  • Completion of a six hour pre-service online training is required upon hire. Teachers must also complete continuing education hours as mandated by state licensing.
  • Applicants must pass a criminal background check and be able to adhere to all other regulations of state licensing, including passing a self assessment TB test and an abuse and neglect screening.
  • Applicants must hold current certification in Child and Adult CPR and at least basic first aid training. More advanced medical training is preferred. Training can be completed upon hire.
  • Basic understanding of, or training in, Waldorf education is preferred.
  • Applicants must be comfortable spending long periods of time outdoors and must be able to manage their own needs fluidly in order to prioritize caring for children in outdoor environments in any weather conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure childrens’ physical needs are being met, including regular bathroom visits for potty training and diaper changes, developing hygienic habits of hand washing, eating, and resting.
  • Provide caring supervision of children from naptime to pick-up.
  • Provide a healthy snack for children.
  • Provide meaningful developmentally and seasonally appropriate craft/artistic or game offerings to accompany play activities.
  • Work with the Lead and Assistant Teachers to ensure continuity of care for each child.
  • Help plan and facilitate events held for our school community and the public to celebrate the changing seasons.

Compensation and Hours:

  • Compensation is based on experience, beginning at $17/hour.
  • We are currently seeking to fill a part-time position (~15-25 hours/week).
  • Hours are 12:00pm - 5:30pm, but could be adjusted depending on the applicant and the whole team’s needs and preferences.
  • Position starts as soon as possible.
